STATE LEGISLATIVE WORK

For past editions of this newsletter, including summaries of my work in Annapolis, see www.brookelierman.com.  To see any of these bills or others, visit the General Assembly site: http://mgaleg.maryland.gov.

If you missed my 2018 End of Session Report, you can access it at my website here. This overview of the 2018 session includes information about (1) our FY19 state budget, (2) the bills I worked on, including violence prevention work, public transit, and education, and (3) information on most major pieces of legislation passed this year by the General Assembly. Take a moment to read it here.

The Governor has three options for bills passed by the General Assembly – he can veto them, he can sign them, or he can allow them to become law without his signature.  To date, the Governor has signed three bills that I championed –

HB 432 – The Public Safety & Violence Prevention Act of 2018 – learn more here.

HB 372 – The Maryland Metro Funding Act. This bill provides dedicated capital funding for WMATA, but through an amendment I helped to author, also provides increased operating and capital support for MTA and requires a capital needs assessment and new transit plan.

HB 1217 – Splash Pads! This bill will ensure that Baltimore City has the flexibility it needs to build splash pads for kids in our public parks!

Please feel free to contact me if I can ever be of assistance or if you have any concerns about issues in your community or policy matters. I am here to serve you!

Keep in touch,

Brooke
